For the first time ever, the habits behind Dubai's success...hear Leadership Dubai Style to learn how Dubai grew against the odds (and how you can as well). Every now and then, a story comes along that absolutely captures your attention. Dubai is one of those for me, but not just me - millions around the world yearn to come to Dubai. This global super city, which just five decades ago was a cholera-plagued backwater, might just be the picture of a dream becoming reality. But how, exactly, did this incredible transformation take place? Leadership! But not your run-of-the-mill government leadership, nor typical corporate leadership, nor leadership taught in classrooms. This is Dubai-style leadership. Living and working in Dubai for the past decade, I've seen the leadership impact firsthand. As a leadership scholar and advisor to CEOs, I thought I was perfectly situated to discover the reasons behind Dubai's success. So, in 2008 I set out to discover the city's "secret sauce". Then the global financial crisis hit! Disaster! I pressed the pause button on my research, and, like everyone in the city, held my breath. Well, what happened next confirmed that there is indeed something unique and special here. I spent the next three years researching, interviewing more than 200 leaders, and identifying the city's leadership secrets, eventually whittling them down to 12 habits. My aim was to develop a replicable model that I could share with my audiences - leaders in businesses, governments, and elsewhere. Anyone who is interested in leadership, and in particular achieving exceptional results, can benefit from understanding the 12 habits I outline here. To learn how to lead Dubai style, we need to walk the desert paths of the past to the superhighways of the future. Leadership Dubai Style retraces the city's journey and draws out the leadership habits that emerged over time. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Tommy Weir. Renuka Sharma is a dutiful wife, mother, and daughter-in-law holding the fort in a modest rental in Delhi while her husband tries to rack up savings in Dubai. Working as a receptionist and committed to finding a place for her family in the new Indian dream of air-conditioned malls and high-paid jobs at multinationals, life is going as planned until the day she strikes up a conversation with an uncommonly self-possessed stranger at a Metro station. Because while Mrs. Sharma may espouse traditional values, India is changing all around her, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if she came out of her shell a little, would it? With equal doses of humor and pathos, The Private Life of Mrs Sharma is a sharp-eyed examination of the clashing of tradition and modernity from a dramatic new voice in Indian fiction. 1. American college grad Katie is as ambitious as she is creative, so when she learns of a friend’s brother who owns an art gallery in Dubai, she leaps at the chance to jump-start her career in the luxurious city. But her dream job quickly becomes a nightmare when she discovers her new boss is as unpleasant as he is handsome. Khalid Sharif may make her pulse race, but not even his dark mystique, lithe muscles, and ridiculous wealth are enough to make up for his rudeness. Katie won't back down though, and she won't quit until Khalid realizes exactly what she has to offer. Some say Sheikh Khalid Sharif has more love for art than for people, but he never concerns himself with the opinions of others. He's determined to expand his gallery into one of Dubai’s greatest museums, and nothing will get in his way - not even his fire-haired new gallery assistant. Khalid knew it was a mistake to hire the Western woman - the determination in her amber green eyes is a distraction, and her striking beauty practically makes his blood boil. Despite this, Khalid refuses to let Katie alter his course. As Katie and Khalid continue to clash, their attraction simmers just beneath the surface. But is it enough to melt Khalid’s icy exterior, or will Katie be left out in the cold? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Nicole Blessing. Gianpierre Romano is being dragged back to Italy by the one thing he can’t escape: family. The Romano fortune and name has followed him wherever he goes - but that only made the headstrong Italian more determined to strike out on his own. Now, he’s on the cusp of achieving international fame for an architectural project in the Middle East when he’s roped into reconstructing the foundation of his family’s resort. It’s a project that Gianpierre has the passion for, but not the time - not if he wants to make it to Dubai for the start date of his dream project. That is until he’s paired with a pretty project manager who makes him want to get passionate about more than just medieval foundations.   Luciana Vivaldi rushed to Italy to care for her niece after the death of her sister, and then fell in love with the culture and people. Beautiful and whip smart, she’s been recruited to keep the Romano Resort’s hunky structural engineer focused and to take him to task if he doesn’t follow his own directives. She’s got a passion for organizing and no time for romance - that is until a kiss following a falling foundation has her doing the one thing she can’t afford: falling for her boss.   Gianpierre and Luciana don’t have time for distractions, but when a twist of fate - and a brisk housing market - leave them living together, their excuses for staying apart fall as fast as the foundation. The spark they have is more blinding than a Sicilian sunset, but when emotions run deep and careers are on the line will playing house be the foundation for a lifelong love? Or will it all fall like a house of cards? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Connor Brown. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/116375/bk_acx0_116375_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

The Pirates of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden Wor...

Somalia, on the tip of the Horn of Africa, has been inhabited as far back as 9,000 B.C. Its history is as rich as the country is old. Caught up in a decades-long civil war, Somalia, along with Iraq and Afghanistan, has become one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Getting there from North America is a 45-hour, five-flight voyage through Frankfurt, Dubai, Djibouti, Bosaso (on the Gulf of Aden), and, finally, Galkayo. Somalia is a place where a government has been built out of anarchy. For centuries, stories of pirates have captured imaginations around the world. The recent bands of daring, ragtag pirates off the coast of Somalia, hijacking multimillion-dollar tankers owned by international shipping conglomerates, have brought the scourge of piracy into the modern era.The capture of the American-crewed cargo ship Maersk Alabama in April 2009, the first United States ship to be hijacked in almost two centuries, catapulted the Somali pirates onto prime-time news. Then, with the horrific killing by Somali pirates of four Americans, two of whom had built their dream yacht and were sailing around the world (“And now on to: Angkor Wat! And Burma!” they had written to friends), the United States Navy, Special Operation Forces, FBI, Justice Department, and the world’s military forces were put on notice: the Somali seas were now the most perilous in the world.Jay Bahadur, a journalist who dared to make his way into the remote pirate havens of Africa’s easternmost country and spend months infiltrating their lives, gives us the first close-up look at the hidden world of the pirates of war-ravaged Somalia.Bahadur’s riveting narrative exposé - the first ever - looks at who these men are, how they live, the forces that created piracy in Somalia, how the pirates spend the ransom money, how they deal with their hostages. Bahadur makes sense of the complex and fraught regional politics, the history of Somalia and the self-governing r 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sunil Malhotra.
